Forgiveness – Psalm 32:1-2

Psalm 32:1-2

1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

I am having a hard time with one of my children. Actually, I have been having a hard time with this child for a while now, and I needed to hear God remind me today that He too has been having a hard time with His child (me)! God often repremands in such a gentle way, I almost missed it just now. . .but I got it.

I am blessed because as soon as I ask forgiveness for my sins, it is removed from me. I am blessed because Jesus has removed all guilt from me. I am to but lie my sins at the cross of Jesus and leave them there, and they are gone. I need to extend that same simple, yet profound, grace to my children when they sin. I need to remind them that they must flee sin, yet they should not keep from fellowship with me or their Heavenly Father, all is forgiven as soon as they ask for it.

It isn’t easy, as we all know, those we love can certainly wound us the deepest. They can break our hearts, but we must love them in spite of that. We must extend grace even when they don’t ask for it, God sure has.

Father, help me begin to understand the blessing and the grace and the mercy that you shine down on me daily. Help my children learn to not sin, but when they do, help them to see and understand grace, mercy and forgiveness. Help me as a parent to reflect an image of your love to my children, even though it will be a very dim one. Forgive me father, as my sin is great. Forgive my selfish pride, forgive my awful mouth, forgive my unkind thoughts and words. Help me to keep from sin today.
