Psalm 31:14-15 and 23-24
14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies
and from those who pursue me.23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful,
but the proud he pays back in full.24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
I am reading Psalm 31 today and God is really challenging me on just how much I trust him and the boxes that I put around that trust. For me, worry about my career or my job future is easy to lay on the Lord. I can give Him that area of my life and not think too much more about it. However, when it comes to my health and my future, I find that I worry constantly. I find that it is especially hard for me to trust God there. Sometimes it is also hard to trust God with my kids, I find it really easy to worry over that. As for my weight and my eating. . well I constantly worry about that.
God is telling me today that I need to be more like David. David was literally running for his life, and yet he was able to say “But I trust in you, O LORD.” He was able to also say “my times are in your hands” which is even more amazing to me. Whether I live or die today Lord, it is all with you. Easy to say, hard to really live and feel.
And yet, in verse 23 and 24 we are told that “the Lord preserves the faithful” and to “be strong and take heart all you who hope in the Lord.” What great words to cling to today. Love the Lord, he will preserve you, be strong and take heart.
Lord, help me to be strong today. So often I get overwhelmed with all the tomorrows that need worrying about. Help me to stop today and reflect on your goodness and mercy. Help me be thankful for the goodness of today, for the freedoms of today, for the gift of today. Help me to be strong and take hear this day. . .just this day. Help me love and priase and live this day for you. . .Amen
