Sermon Notes – Matthew 9:9-13

Matthew 9:13

“Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

I heard a pretty good sermon yesterday that I would like to remember and reflect on this week, as it follows what I believe God has already begun calling me to do. Based on this story in Matthew of Jesus calling Matthew the tax collector our pastor got three things we need to do to make the joy of Easter last into our everyday lives.

  1. From verse 9 – we are to follow, or continue learning from Jesus.
  2. From verse 12 - we are to love the unlovable.
  3. From verse 13 - we are to show mercy to others, especially by meeting physical needs.

These things continue to be a theme I too am getting from my daily time with God. I am to follow Him more closely by time in his word and prayer and quiet time with Him. I feel he is also calling me to really learn to love others, all their warts and all. I also believe He is calling me to reach beyond myself and to begin meeting the real physical needs of people.

I am praying for help do do all these things.
